Sword & Seed
Sword & Seed is a folk duo based in Montréal and is composed of artists Alicia Zwicewicz and Jacob Wiens. The group performs original compositions by singer Alicia Zwicewicz, whose lyrics feature rich and compelling allegory. Zwicewicz’s music is influenced by the work of musicians like Joni Mitchell, Teitur Lassen, and Laura Marling. With his background in music theory and experience as a freelance musician in Montréal’s improvised music scene, Jacob Wiens creates Sword & Seed’s detailed and focused guitar arrangements. Sword & Seed will give their premiere performance this Fall at Le Cagibi in Montréal’s Mile End, opening for solo artist Shelby Cohen.
Nomad
Nomad is a Montréal-based collective of six imaginative musicians and close friends. Originally formed in 2012 as a jazz combo at McGill University, the creative chemistry of the six members was immediately obvious and they quickly left the bounds of the school to begin performing around the city. Their improvisatory performance concept, a process of spontaneous creation and reinterpretation of repertoire, encourages exploration and is as risky as it is exciting.
Solo Guitar
Jacob is constantly searching for new, challenging repertoire for solo electric guitar. The compositions of American guitarist and composer Ben Monder are particular dear to his heart. In the new year, Jacob will be working with Montréal composer Louis-Michel Tougas on a new piece for a chamber ensemble featuring electric guitar.
